Commonly Asked Questions about Pilates:

What is a Pilates?

The Pilates Method is a series of low impact exercises that focuses on strengthening the core postural muscles to balance the body and support the spine.

How does this work?

Using the Guiding Principles, pilates works the muscles of the body through stretch with strength and control. Muscles become stronger, longer and more toned. The spine is better supported, becomes more flexible, and is less vulnerable to injury.

With regular practice pilates strengthens the body, increases flexibility and mobility, improves balance, alignment and coordination, promotes self-awareness and overall wellness.

Who should do Pilates?

Pilates is for every body. The exercises are low impact and can be modified for people of any age and fitness level. Your instructor will ask you whether you have any specific physical health or medical conditions that may require modification of particular exercises.

What to expect?

During your hour long class your instructor will lead you through a series of exercises performed from a mat on the floor. The exercises are performed from a supine, prone, or seated position.

Is it covered by insurance?

Exercise programs may be covered by your corporate or insurer’s wellness program. Prior to attending your first class, please consult your plan or policy for activities eligible for reimbursement.
